The testing your security system is a critical part of owning a security system. You can perform this easy but vital procedure at no cost.
Testing your alarm system ensures that it is working properly, has not been damaged or tampered with, checks the phone line, and tests the communication to the central station.
We recommend all users test their alarm system on a monthly basis using the following procedure:
- Make sure you know your central station password. Contact Consumers Security Group if your not sure.
- Arm your alarm system in the away mode.
- Allow approximately 45 seconds for the system to arm itself.
- Set off the alarm by opening a door or window. You can trip as many zones as you wish to test, including motion detectors.
- Disarm the alarm system by entering your keypad code.
- Await the phone call from the central station. Stay off the phone until the central station calls.
When the central station calls, give them your password, tell them you are testing the system, and inquire which zones reported in.
- If not all zones you tripped reported in, or if the central station does not contract you, call Consumers Security Group for service.
Testing your alarm system is that easy, and gives you peace of mind. Be sure to do it on a regular basis
Additionally, you should test your alarm system whenever the phone company works on your lines, if you change phone carriers, or if you subscribe to additional services such as DSL.
